IMPLEMENTATION AND IMPACT OF SKILL -BASED LEARNING AT THE SECONDARY EDUCATION LEVEL
Abstract
Skill-based learning emphasizes developing skills relevant to the job market's needs and the realities of life rather than just mastering academic materials. However, the local context regarding its implementation, impact, and factors influencing its success at the secondary education level requires further exploration. This study aims to identify models or approaches used in the implementation of skills-based learning at the secondary education level, evaluate its impact on student learning and achievement, and analyze the factors influencing the success of the implementation. This library research involves collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing data from relevant written sources, such as books, journal articles, and credible research reports. The initial step is identifying and selecting sources based on content suitability, credibility, and timeliness. The collected data are analyzed using content analysis techniques, which include data coding, categorization, and synthesis. The results of the analysis are then compiled into a systematic research report. The findings from the literature study of these articles formulate nine models and methods of skills-based learning at the secondary education level. The impact of the implementation is increased student engagement, conceptual understanding, development of 21st-century skills, preparation for the world of work, independence and responsibility, increased academic achievement, satisfaction and self-confidence, and reduced learning gaps. Eight factors were found, including elements of the school environment, teacher ability, administrative support, student engagement, and available resources that influence the implementation of skill-based learning. This study provides in-depth and evidence-based insights into the implementation and effects of skill-based learning at the secondary education level.
